4th of july treats

Patriotic Treats for a Sensational 4th of July Weekend

Fourth of July is on a Monday this year, which means your entire weekend is booked with barbecues and great company. Whether you’re hosting the bulk of this weekend’s shindigs or you’re the lucky guest of several potlucks, whipping up some festive food is at the top of your To-Do’s. To prepare for the long weekend ahead, here are some of our favorite quick and painless patriotic treats so you can spend more time celebrating. These treats are easy enough to have the kids help out!

4th of July White Chocolate Covered Strawberries

Simple and sure to satisfy, red white and blue strawberries and tasty and an oh so simple. Dip fresh strawberries in melted white chocolate, then sprinkle the tips with sparkly blue sprinkles and refrigerate for a delicious poolside treat. Here’s a fun and easy recipe.  Tip: Not a white chocolate fan? Substitute plain or vanilla yogurt.

Patriotic Pretzel “Sparklers”

We’re all about quick chocolate dips. Melt your desired amount of white chocolate (or yogurt!) Add a few drops of red food coloring to the first and a few drops of blue food coloring to the second. Leave the last one white. Lay a sheet of wax paper down and drizzle all three colors onto jumbo pretzel sticks. Pour your desired sprinkles into a bowl and spoon the sprinkles onto the pretzel sticks for a little extra sparkle.  Tip: Melt one chocolate at a time to prevent premature drying.

Donut Kabobs

These are simple as 1, 2, 3! Assemble blackberries, strawberries, and glazed donut holes onto a skewer, and you’ve got perfectly patriotic treats with no bake time! Tip: For a healthier alternative, substitute banana slices for donut holes, and freeze the kabobs for a fun frozen treat.

Watermelon Stars

No 4th of July barbecue is complete without watermelon. Take your fruit platter to the next level and cut your watermelon into stars with a cookie cutter. Then just add a dollop of whip cream and garnish with a blueberry. You’re done! Tip: Keep refrigerated until ready to serve.

Red, White and Blueberry Salad
